Sozopol is a town in southeastern Bulgaria on the Black Sea. It is located a few small peninsula in the southern part of the Bourgas Bay. With a population of 4317 people on census data to February 1, 2011 , it is located in Burgas and is the administrative center of the municipality of Sozopol.
Sozopol is the successor of the Greek colony of Apollonia, and together with Nessebar is one of the oldest Bulgarian towns . From antiquity to the 17th century it was a thriving commercial center. He is known as fishing and wine center and occupies an important place in the grain trade from Thrace . Of Late Antiquity the city developed as an important religious center with numerous medieval monasteries.
With its cultural and historical past , with its preserved architecture of 18-19 centuries, its beaches and the annual Festival of Arts Apolonia Sozopol today attracts many tourists.
