Ledenica cave is located 16 km from the town of Vratsa, the territory of the Vratsa Balkan Nature Park , located 830 meters above sea level in the North – Stresherski of Vratsa Mountain. The cave was known during the Ottoman rule. Shepherds used it to store inside the sheep’s milk .
The cave entrance is located in the lowest part of the Ledenika uval at an altitude of 830 meters . The temperature varies from -7 ° C to 15 ° C in the entrance and 8 ° C throughout . The air humidity is 92 %. There are numerous galleries and interesting karst formations – stalactites and stalagmites formed over thousands of years. Long is 320 m and has ten rooms. The first hall is the ” porch ” ( the lowest part of the cave ), which rises huge ice column diameter around 21 meters. In winter and spring in this room are formed ice formations ( stalactites , stalagmites ), hence the name of the cave. Here are a few meters , in which one has to move lower down – pass ” drag ” . Through it reaches a ” small room ” which has an almost circular shape. After another bottleneck in the cave corridor coma reached the Great ( Concert ) Hall, which is very rich in formations. Some of them are called by different names because of their interesting shape – Crocodile , the Giant’s head , falcons , Santa, house of Baba Yaga and many others. Under the ” Concert Hall ” is another – ” refrigerator” . In past times, people have used it for storing eggs . Deviate to the right of the Concert Hall and leads to less sinter lake depth 0,50 m, for which there is a legend that the water is ” magic ” and fulfill the desire of everyone who dipped his hand into nego.Ot Great Hall in iron bridges passing through Little and Great divide , pelmet and the hall leads to the so-called . “White Hall” . Here you can see the mother- tongue entities , wife of giant elephant , Bathing Girl . The highest point of the cave is called Seventh nebe.Peshterata is most attractive for consideration in winter and spring. According to experts it is ” divine ” acoustics. Ledenica cave is just one of over 500 caves, bat known in the Vratsa Balkan. Due to the low temperature , it is used primarily for wintering . Through direct observation and caught with nets in the cave were recorded 4 species of bats : Ledenica is developed for tourists in 1961 , it is one of the main tourist attractions in the area and is one hundred tourist sites of the Bulgarian Tourist Union under Decree No. 16.S Council of Ministers No.2057 of 28.11.1960 , the cave ” Ledenica ” was declared a natural landmark and is listed on the List of protected areas and protected areas in Bulgaria . As of March 6, 2010 Ledenica cave is managed by the Town of Vratsa.
