Bansko – history and development of the resort
Nestled in the foothills of the Pirin Mountains , Bansko is an attractive place for Bulgarian and foreign tourists throughout the year. Equally attractive in all four seasons of the year , the city offers a variety of opportunities for recreation and relaxation. Here is the balance between ecology , flora, fauna and national vivid Bansko in and outside the country due to the excellent conditions for skiing combined with distinctive folklore and old architecture .
The geographical location of the town snow cover from December to April, and the alpine character of the Pirin mountain provides excellent conditions for professional and amateur skiers .
City museum – where new and old live together – modern center passes into cobbled streets with typical houses with wooden verandas, hidden behind strong double gates . Known as a center for mountaineering and skiing with modern ski facilities and a new cabin lift. The town’s history is traced back in many legends and myths , some of which claim to historical authenticity , the foundation of Bansko applies during the Turkish invasion ( XV – XVI century) . Since then, the first mention of Bansko as a central place in an official document ( Turkish register from 1576). Previously, the population lived in a few scattered hamlets . Lack of any data for the development of the region in earlier eras is somewhat of archaeological excavations and research. The findings are varied and cover all historical periods from prehistory to antiquity and Middle Ages. They show that the local population do not appear out of nowhere in our history and have evolved through the centuries . Today the city is the center of a “necklace ” of ancient settlements and apparently originated from their inhabitants .
